The vice president attended the opening ceremony in Milan, where people also protested the presence of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents at the Winter Olympics.

Ask yourselves, why do officials need ICE protection when they have the Secret Service?

Because the police is employed by states and the country. ICE is their private army, and obeys their master.

No difference than officers having red armbands in the 1930’s.

The video from the TV station must be copyrighted, but about everybody else’s video from the audience?

Probably DMCA. The Olympic committee is very jealous and very aggressive. They control all recordings strictly.

They don’t control my tivo recordings.

Which is why everyone should oppose ATSC 3.0.

With ATSC 3.0, TV stations can literally insert ads overlayed on screen at any point.

They can use your tv’s smart functions to literally track your behavior.

They can refuse to allow you to record tv stations entirely, or just kndividual shows.

They can delete shows without your consent. They can block you from watching shows. They can make OTA tv programing pay per view.

I’m not saying they ARE doing this, or are planning it, but they CAN. And if capitalism has taught me anything it’s “fuck you, pay us, and then pay us again, and fuck you again”.

See…humans are stupid. We could all be living in lush rich forests, having sex in bright sunny fields, with no cares in the world.

Instead, we all have jobs, and make ourselves slaves to them. We hand over control of all aspects of our lives to corporations.

Instead of utopia, we live in a parking lot jungle. Where the profits for paid parking are more important than affordable housing, and rent control.

And it all rolls downhill. Even television is trying its hand at enshitification. Don’t buy a smart tv. Don’t buy ATSC 3.0 anything. Tell these fuckers to fuck off!

I always have my “smart” TV disconnected from internet, and I run my media viewing through the steam deck in desktop mode, but any Linux computer will work just as fine. Then I employ some high sea villainy and boom, set to coast.

              this little guy?

              TiVo

my family had a TiVo box back in 1999. probably one of the first DVRs to market.

my dad even hooked up a 2nd coax satellite line because you could record on one and watch the other. shit was wild!

Problem is that fair use doesn’t prevent a dmca takedown. It doesn’t really matter until you go to court and prove it, unfortunately. These takedowns are functioning exactly as designed, allowing for easy corporate censorship with minimal repercussions for abuse.

I also think they were ready for that and they masked it live. It doesn’t make any sense for the presenters to mention the booing if you can’t even hear it in the recording. It must have been very loud.

It’s all about mic placement. Ive had the good fortune to play sports on live tv in front of large crowds a good amount and it’s not uncommon at all for the crowd sound on the broadcast to be way different than in person. That being said, I’d bet there’s a different broadcast from a different country where you can totally hear the boos.

I am sure thet had more than a single microphone. So it is most probably all about the mix. Include crowd noises only when that is convenient.

The copyright doesn’t apply to the event of Vance being booed itself, it applies to that specific video recording of it. Sure the video creator is a dick for getting it taken down, but they’re within their legal rights to.

Copyright is a compromise, not an absolute. It has all kinds of provisions for things like commentary, public interest etc which generally speaking does allow short clips of a greater work.
