Tons of style, beautiful world building, impressive makeup and costumes, fantastic acting.
But, extremely mediocre cliche story. Still a great movie, just don’t think about it too hard.
I remember when it came out, people were hating on it. I kept explaining that just because you didn’t get it, doesn’t make it a bad movie.
A lot of the things they did, particularly in editing, are quite brilliant.
Pro-tip: Next time you watch it, notice how the hero and the villain never actually interact with each other. The closest is when Zorg orders a bunch of cab drivers to be fired.
This is my favorite movie of all time. Besson started working on the screenplay when he was 16. And when you watch the movie, one definitely feels that this movie is Besson’s life passion. What’s even more impressive to me is how this movie still looks good today. Gaulthier’s costumes still look futuristic and fantastical. And all the actors’ deliveries are just spot on.
Plenty to praise and love about this film … but I think it’s worth mentioning how it’s also another one of Gary Oldman’s classic roles!
“I am very DISAPPOINTED!”
It’s literally the only way I inform people of my disappointment, with spittle-laden rage!
This is a quotable classic. I think I’ll watch it again…
