I did not have this on my BINGO!-card for 2026.

Hmm, never read that. I will test this myself with bunch of different Shaders, if any of them has a similar effect. It might be because there are many Shaders that simulate the CRT effects and can be customized.

At least here in Europe we had SCART for CRTs. SCART is multipurpose connection, that supports variety of cables, including RGB. There was no adapter needed.

And that’s not a coincidence. Not all, but the best pixel artists took the limitations and quirks of the tech from that era into account when designing. Not only the CRT technology with scanlines and other properties, also the cable connection you got plays a huge role. Not only on SNES, but also very apparent on the Mega Drive / Genesis. Nowadays I play old systems on emulators only and don’t want to miss a good Shader which simulates old CRT effects. They get pretty close to the original thing (depending on the shader and depending on to what monitor you compare).

Kirby games were never too hard to play. I grew up with the first games, Kirby’s Dream Land on Game Boy, Kirby’s Adventure on NES and Kirby’s Dream Land 2 on Game Boy. In the first game he didn’t even have his characteristic skill to eat enemy and transform to absorb their skills.
To me the Kirby games always were a mood thing, its super super fun for the music, the art style and to see these cute enemies and worlds. Just exploring and trying out to see what comes next. And since he learned skills from enemies, it got 1000x more interesting with all the abilities.

Man that track specifically burned into my head since I listened to it the first time. I wouldn’t mind if someone suggest alternative tracks from a soundtrack, that they think would have been a better choice.
And if you want, there is also “Wario Blast”.
As taken from the European manual:
“Far to the north of BomberMan’s hometown, Peace Town, lies the modern metropolis Diamond City. There, the evil Carat Diamond and his cohort, scientist Dr. Mook, are holding a Robot Tournament with robots specially designed for their combat and offensive capabilities. Hoping to steal BomberMan’s advanced combat capabilities, Diamond has created a fake BomberMan to go to Peace Town and kidnap the real BomberMan. Aware of Diamond’s plot, Black Bomberman heads out alone to face the fake BomberMan. But Black BomberMan is defeated and his castle is taken. Somehow Black BomberMan escapes and seeks refuge with White BomberMan, and warns him of Diamond’s evil plan. Soon, wave upon wave of enemy robots begin their advance toward Peace Town. Now our two heroes must join forces to overthrow the evil Diamond !!”
I don’t have a favorite, but one that I find amazing is Super Mario 64 Romhack: Mario Builder 64 (which got hit by DMCA from allegedly Nintendo). Mario Builder 64 is a level editor realized fully in Super Mario 64 itself, which should run on real hardware I think. It is intuitive to use and the community created ton of custom levels. I think a custom software is needed to handle the community stuff, but the Romhack itself is playable on an emulator if you want test building your own levels.
The download page for the patch file (remember its not a Rom, its just a patch) got hit by a DMCA. Usually Nintendo does not do that with Romhacks. Sure the patch files itself are not Rom files, but they might contain data that is copyrighted. That’s why Nintendo might be annoyed by this.
Get your patch file copies (.bps format) and archive it if you care.
Note this is copied from a post I made on an older account. I am not stealing others posts… just saying it now.
Another one that stood out as one of my favorites is already mentioned by another users comment, the Super Metroid and A Link to the Past Crossover Randomizer. It literally binds both separate games by portals and items have influence on the other game.
Or what about the recreation of the BS F-Zero tracks. As the game itself was lost to time, because it was a streaming (yes we got streaming in 90s…) it was impossible to dump the cart. But there exist video footage of these tracks. They used some tech to automatically analyze video to basically create a perfect match. Article by Destructoid, Documentation video by Did You Know Gaming, and download link of the newest patch file v1.1.
There are so many interesting Romhacks out there, its one of my favorite things about videogames in general.
