In my experience, this extends beyond just communication. Every social aspect is easier with other autistic folks and more difficult with allistic folks. Yet we’re constantly told we have poor social skills by allistic people, who don’t recognize that they are equally part of the social difficulty equation.

Framing autism in general as a “price” that has to be paid is demeaning and IMO a bad take anyway. It’s par for the course with neurotypical folk only seeing autism as a net negative and not thinking about all the great human advancements that I would bet are the result of an autistic person’s hyperfixation. Particularly STEM advancements.

Severe cases are usually debilitating, yes. But ASD1 is a lot more common than people realize, it’s still very underdiagnosed. I firmly believe I’m better off with it.
