As someone who lives in an urban environment I just really wish the cops would give a crap about loud vehicles. Like, I get that they want to have their volume, but I’d like to have conversations and listen to podcasts and such on public sidewalks without being drowned out even at max volumes every 10 or so minutes.
Also gas motorcyclists are convinced that loud bikes are safer and don’t care that this makes everyone dislike them. Personally I’d love to see studies into light based presence signaling instead. Something like a unique color of light that motorcycles have to be showing in all directions and beaming at their perimeter on the ground would likely work better by not just giving a general announcement that what may be a motorcycle is somewhere it would make it crystal clear you do not let your vehicle make contact with the [color] light. Now frankly I’d settle for only enforcing noise restrictions on motorcycles as they’re completely optional.
The only ones that don’t are ones that only send data to your data storage.

It’s also that cops have put an amount of investment into pr that is unique among government employees (and that includes pushing you to not think of them as just more government employees) except maybe the military. They’re bleeding your local budget dry, but if the news reports on stuff like that or their misconduct they lose access to crime leads. There’s a massive push to make you think highly of them. But it should also be noted, teenagers are particularly targeted by and vulnerable to such messaging. In my 30s I can look around and see the evidence against such comparisons, but at 16 I was just some kid who worried she’d never be attractive or well liked. Had I been in spaces that encouraged such attitudes such as Instagram or 4chan I would have been really vulnerable to it.
Young people are often overly worried about such things because adolescence is a difficult and transitory stage where these worries are developmentally appropriate. They’re supposed to have adults who can help them deal with this, and peers that they can learn by interacting with, but it’s normal to not believe your parents on such issues and interactions with peers has been moved online with social media and there’s little interaction with adults. This has led room for teenagers to be preyed on by algorithms that encourage their worst instincts and online communities that teach anything from antisocial behavior to masochistic epistemology.

That’s what the police training has been teaching them to do. Learning about it was extremely scary, because seriously why the fuck would you teach cops of all fucking people to shoot at the first twinge of fear and that everyone is out to get them!
Shit yeah that’s about how long for me. Gods, I remember talking about how cool and futuristic Facebook was back in like 08, but in my defense I was a middle schooler. I rapidly saw it morph into a hub of unpleasantness and bailed.
The rule of thumb is to plan for machines having 80% uptime. Mind you, new lines, and especially new technologies are often a clusterfuck until they mature and you really understand the quirks of trying to do what you’re trying to do with them. But yeah 20% retooling would make sense if they have a lot of models and a really complicated retooling process, but if that’s the case, well listen, I believe it, but I’d be asking questions about how to cut the tool change time down.
