  • I’ve bought a retro console recently and these are the options I came across. That’s all I know.

I’m in the UK and I can see a TrimUi Smart Pro for £30 on eBay.i can also see a vertical brick Anbernic RG35XX for £30.

Definitely check out eBay listings. You should be able to get old €60 RRP devices for a lot less. I got my Retroid Pocket 4 Pro for a bargain price because everyone seemed to be dumping recent consoles to buy the Retroid Pocket 5.

  • There are a hell of a lot of options and you need to decide on the form factor you want. Have a look at this video for a general overview of the possibilities at every budget. Whatever you decide on, I would recommend getting it on eBay to avoid delivery charges, tax, etc. You’ll get a lot more value out of used “like-new” products.

You could use an old Android phone and this might be a most versatile option…although locking down might be an issue (depending on how young this sibling is).

    For emulation consoles:

Miyoo mini is probably the cheapest option in your budget for you that can play what you want. Also look at the Anbernic 35XX device range (same hardware in a ton of formfactor options).

I would personally look for a deal on a Powkiddy X55 (or TrimUI Smart Pro is a bit cheaper) to get a candybar form factor and up to PSP games. Retroid pocket 3 pro might be a good option too if you can find a bargain.

The medical community has long since moved on from the cardiovascular definition of death.

UpToDate.com is about the only source I can be bothered mustering up for an internet disagreement at this time of night:

Death is an irreversible, biologic event that consists of permanent cessation of the critical functions of the organism as a whole [1]. This concept allows for survival of tissues in isolation, but it requires the loss of integrated function of various organ systems. Death of the brain therefore qualifies as death, as the brain is essential for integrating critical functions of the body. The equivalence of brain death with death is largely, although not universally, accepted [2,3]. Brain death implies the permanent absence of cerebral and brainstem functions.

Also this video seems to explain what I’m trying to say, although I’m not going to watch the whole thing at this hour and I only skimmed through it: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5IhxRSaJ74E

Not having a heartbeat and not breathing doesn’t mean you’re dead. Intensive care departments are literally full of people with medically paralysed breathing muscles (i.e. not breathing) on ventilation machines. People go onto heart/lung bypass machines everyday to have heart surgery and their heart is stopped. You just need to keep oxygenated blood going around, keeping those tissues alive till you get the heart and breathing back online (this is what CPR is trying to do).

When the brain stem is dead tissue, then you’re truly dead (but even then you can be kept “alive” artificially if you’re already on a ventilation machine in a suitable intensive care).

  • I’m pretty techie and I’ve been here for months. I still don’t fully understand why it matters and how a different instance would have changed my experience. The fediverse is so fragmented, it would be dumb to stick to one instance. My app is always set to browse “all”. Everyone commenting seems to be from different instances. I’m certainly not going to start reading about different instances at signup when it presents the fact that you will be able to access all instances anyway. I picked randomly from one of the most popular choices. This whole process of a selection of an instance sounded good to software engineers, and sure this is how the technology fits together…but these are “back end” issues that I (and other normies) don’t care about at all. Users do not want to get into the weeds of how the back end works and it is certainly off putting.
