If someone tries to send me money with X Pay or whatever, it will at least be a easy sign I should cut all ties with them

Instances that don’t vet users sufficiently get defederated for spam. Users then leave for instances that don’t get blocked. If instances are too heavy handed in their moderation then users leave those instances for more open ones and the market of the fediverse will balance itself out to what the users want.
I’m so pissed right now. I thought I was joining the fetaverse but I can’t even find a single user talking about delicious crumbled cheese made from sheep’s milk
The EU seems to be handling it fine, the point is not targeting specific sites but targeting user hostile behaviors against citizens
TikTok being banned is good. Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter should be banned as well. Closed, source, manipulative and harmful algorithms should be banned and these apps all use dark patterns in their design.
The fediverse and open social networks where the algorithms are open source and well understood and the user is allowed to choose their own algorithms is the only safe way to use social media.
I mean you can provide audit findings and results and it’s a pretty big part of vendor management and due diligence but at some point you have to accept risk in using open source software that can be susceptible to supply chain hacks, might be poorly maintained, etc or accept the risk of taking the closed source company’s documentation at face value (and that can also be poorly maintained and susceptible to supply chain attacks)
There’s got to be some level of risk tolerance to do business and open source doesn’t actually reduce risk. But it can at least reduce enshittification
Good news, in my opinion. I don’t think users see the value in of AI and so maybe sites will go back to catering to organic results instead.
Just kidding Google will just make the non-AI search experience so bad that people are forced to sign up for their AI subscription
That’s most likely due to the fact that docsis dedicates most of the spectrum on the cable for download not upload since that’s what most users want. Now if those are fiber speeds maybe you have a different argument but cable networks are designed to give the most people the best experience and dedicating spectrum to upload would be a waste.
If you want to pay more, I’m sure your cable provider would give you a symmetrical cable plan for $400 a month
