Neal Asher! I just fall into his books. I’m never even sure if it’s good writing but I do love his stuff so much.

Google assistant was already a good listener, it seems to have gotten worse, but compared to anything else I’ve tried to do with voice it was & is still the best at understanding, and can be set to be bilingual.
I honestly don’t understand this but it’s very Google to push the change before the replacement is fully baked. They did that with YouTube Music too.
I intuitively pronounce gimbal as gimble because of Jabberwocky. 'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves did gyre and gimble in the wabe; all mimsy were the borogroves, and the mome wraths outgrabe."
Like even if it was wrong that is how it looks like it sounds.
I do generally enjoy animated adaptations more, and agree with your list.
Arrival - we were rewatching this one evening when my teenager came home with some friends - for reference these are a group who have been watching the “evil bong” movies together, not people I think of as film geeks at all. But Arrival held their interest despite being a slower paced story and 2 of them came back to watch it in full because it just didn’t let them go. It’s such a good movie.
What bothers me more is that violence gets a PG rating here, sex gets an X rating. How in the world is it more inappropriate for kids to see people naked than for them to watch someone hack someone else to death? The graphic violence should get a more restricted rating than on screen sex.
Hmm. Lately, Adrian Tchaikovsky.
Neal Asher, Mike Carey, Octavia Butler.
I read a lot of fantasy too, if I had to pick a favorite writer it might be Ian McDonald, but Mike Carey is so good, the comics he worked on are so good.
