Nah, it’s arse on the iPad. They decided to try and turn the iPad into some kind of hybrid desktop device, akin to Windows 8. The old split-screen and slide-over apps are gone, and now you’re stuck with this intensely awkward windowing system that is much slower to work with than the old system.

For example, in the past if you wanted to take a screenshot you could do so by sliding your finger up from the bottom left corner. Now that shrinks your window, and you instead have to do that awkward power/volume click.

They re-added slide-over apps, but only in the shitty windowing system. The device has a screen that’s like, 10-11", why does it need a windowing system? It’s tiny.

I consider multitasking a discrete part of the OS, not Liquid Glass. i do have some thoughts on it though

for what it’s worth there are gestures they don’t tell you that make the multitasking so much easier: toggle maximization by tapping the top of the window, and then as they mention you can snap it to either side by smashing the window in a direction

also they added back drag and drop to Split View in iPadOS 26.2. after three months they finally have a stable release of this multitasking thing

I have found multitasking useful especially with stage manager, but I completely understand those who don’t like it and just want an option to restore the old multitasking. I also miss Quick Notes (workaround through a shortcut button just isn’t the same)

Thank you. I had no idea they half-fixed it in 26.2. They half-arsed the slide-over thing in 26.1, but having to manage the side-by-side and whatnot by long-pressing the traffic lights and selecting a menu item just felt like arse. It took a decent amount of fucking around but I think I finally understand how this new system works.

Still not super fond of it and would prefer the old split-screen system, but it’s much better than not having it at all. I don’t get why they need to waste so much screen real-estate with this new design. Everything is so big and clunky.
